PARADISE HYDROPONIC COMMUNITY GARDEN

WASHINGTON, DC

Last year we grew 300 lbs of strawberries in our hydroponic garden, updated our raised beds, established a gardening club, and hosted free educational events ranging from healthy cooking for kids to the lifecycle of plants. This year we added a little free library space to the garden. We are currently expanding the garden. Our goal is to reach $10,000 in donations to create a greenhouse and start a future Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program beginning in March 2021. We also plan to complement the garden with an outdoor classroom and weekly workshops to learn about nutrition, biology and environmental sustainability. So far, we've raised $2,500 in grants. Your donation will make a difference.

FAMILIES ARE ARTISTS, CREATORS & TEACHERS (FACT)

FL | KY | NC

FACT nurtures the artistic talents of families in affordable housing, and inspires them to become leading creative voices in their communities. From 2017-19, we reached 188 parents, grandparents, and the kids they care for. In addition to engaging classes led by teaching artists, and family field trips to art museums, FACT hosted 6 community art exhibits. In 2020, we're working to add 7 more communities and create a virtual FACT classroom. FACT is free to all participants. Every dollar you donate is being matched by the Kenan Charitable Trust.

CIVIC STORIES

OUR NEWEST PROJECT

Stories are the foundation of communities. But too often stories of strength and civic participation are not amplified. We'd like to change that with your help. Building on an intergenerational and multicultural forum we piloted in 2017, we're working with our incredible network of 6,000 plus residents across the country to highlight and amplify how everyday residents are stepping up as civic leaders. We're starting with collecting stories from residents and aim to grow to host more forums and workshops in all of our allied communities.
