THOMAS PAINE SQUARE

SAN FRANCISCO, CA

ABOUT THOMAS PAINE SQUARE...

Located in the heart of San Francisco, amidst the rapidly gentrifying neighborhood of the Western Addition, Thomas Paine Square preserves affordable housing in a city where housing prices are rapidly displacing many working-class families. Owned by the Bethel AME Church, in a limited partnership with the development firm, Telesis, the 98 units of Thomas Paine Square were purchased in the 1980s and rehabilitated from 2001 to 2002.

Today Thomas Paine is one of the most diverse in the area, both by income and ethnicity. The community is also served through a large-scale food program, computer literacy support, a technology center, and workforce development through local partnerships.
