Thomas Paine Square
San Francisco, CA
Owned by the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in limited partnership with Telesis Corporation, the 98 units of Thomas Paine Square were purchased in the 1980s and rehabilitated from 2001 to 2002. Located in the heart of San Francisco's Western Addition, the complex preserves affordable housing in a city where housing prices are rapidly displacing many low and working class families.
Today the community is one of the most diverse in the area, both by income and ethnicity. The community is also served through a large-scale food program, computer literacy support, a technology center, and workforce development through local partnerships.
