Dr. Thomas Legrand’s new book Politics of Being: Wisdom and Science for a New Development Paradigm offers a big-picture view of the world and our place in it during tumultuous times – including the present moment.
One goal of the book is to propose a Politics guided by the goal of “the fulfillment of all beings.” Quite a tall order. Essentially a continual reminder to keep in mind what could be best for everyone.
Legrand encourages policymakers and employers to bring out the best in people, honoring their cooperative skills and creativity. Not just their need for basic survival, but for feeling valued.
To deal with crises and turmoil, Legrand posits that the world needs a shift in consciousness. He suggests “growing up collectively so that, more and more, we act as mature, responsible, and reasonable human beings – no more than that. Each of us already has such people in his or her neighborhood and daily life.”
Public Kinship, a leadership strategy promoted by Neighborhood Associates, is grounded in the precept of loving thy neighbor as thyself. Like the Politics of Being, Public Kinship offers a path toward addressing the pressing issues of our time. Let’s explore the role of Public Kinship in making the world livable, harmonious, and sustainable. Drawing on inspiration from past wisdom: what can we do now to Repair the Breach for the future?
